Celebrating Older Americans Month, 2003, "What We Do Makes a Difference"

Assembled by Beth M. Wescott, Network Access Coordinator, National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern Atlantic Region and reprinted from the January/February 2003 issue of SEA Currents, the newsletter of the NN/LM SEA Region.

The Older Americans Month theme for May 2003 is "What We Do Makes A Difference." Over the next several months, librarians and others may receive more information about the Administration on Aging's plans in recognition of Older Americans Month 2003. (http://www.aoa.gov/press/oam/oam.asp) The National Institute on Aging is very proud to continue this tradition of honoring older Americans and their caregivers, and of celebrating our families and our communities as the foundation of our society.

In May this year, as in the past, associations and health care agencies will be celebrating Older Americans Month. Many older Americans maintain their good health with the help of family and community caregivers. Your medical library might like to use May as a month to promote this year's theme: "What We Do Makes a Difference".

America: A Community for All AgesLast year's theme "America: A Community for All Ages" included logos, factsheets, PSAs and spawned many Internet sites, private and public, populated by programs, people, projects and the faces of America's diverse older population. (http://www.aoa.gov/may2002/default.htm) 2003 will be similar, and though not all the collateral materials are available this early, there are links.
