LSTA Heads UP!

If you are looking for funding for outreach efforts in your community, consider applying for an LSTA grant. Because the proposal processes and timelines vary according to state or jurisdiction, check out the resources below and start planning now for fiscal year 2002/03 and 2003/04 projects.

The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) of 1996, a section of the Museum and Library Services Act, provides for funding to State Library Agencies to promote access to the learning and information resources of all types of libraries for individuals of all ages. These agencies, in turn, distribute funds through competitive subgrant competitions or cooperative agreements to public, academic, research, school, and special libraries in their respective states. The Act specifies two priorities for funding:

  • The first is for activities using technology for information sharing between libraries and between libraries and other community services.
  • The second is for programs that make library resources more accessible to urban, rural, or low-income residents, and others who have difficulty using library services.

Cooperative, multi-type library projects are usually given funding priority, so consider partnering with public, school, and other libraries in your community! For more information about LSTA funding in your state or jurisdiction, contact the library agencies listed below.
