NLM Gateway Update

The NLM Gateway is a Web-based system that allows users to search simultaneously in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). It can be especially useful to the Internet user who is new to NLM's online resources and does not know what information is available there or how best to search for it. The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, AIDS Meetings, HSR Meetings, HSRProj, MEDLINEplus and DIRLINE.

New versions of the NLM Gateway were released in February and March. Some of the highlights:

• A new collection, "HSR Meetings," was added in the Meeting Abstracts category. The HSR Meetings collection includes the meeting abstracts from the former HealthSTAR database.
• A new collection, "DIRLINE," was added to the NLM Gateway in the Consumer Health category. The DIRLINE collection is a directory of health-related organizations.
• Two new field qualifiers were added for searching. You may now search by Unique Identifier ([UI]) and by Substance Name ([NM]).
• The search box was added to the Locker, Preferences, and Login pages.
• There were three changes to the Results Summary box:
• The Databanks category was renamed Other Collections.
• The Consumer Health category was moved from the fifth entry to the third entry.
• The category names now link to a fuller description of the categories in the Gateway Overview.
• Items with complete details are now available in all three formats - labelled, unlabelled, and export.
• The two letter search field qualifier for ISSN was changed to IS from SN.
• Gateway results formatting for export format was changed for importing files into bibliographic manager software.
• The AIDS Meetings (with MeSH) collection was updated with Year End Processed data.
