NLM Technical Bulletin Highlights

What's happening to monographic citations from NLM specialty databases? Does Locatorplus really contain citations to book chapters? Where is all this heading? The NLM Technical Bulletin (TB) is the authoritative place to look for announcements and details of systems enhancements. The May-June 2000 issue has important information on the current and future organization of NLM's bibliographic databases, migration of monographic citations to Locatorplus, access to PDF versions of the List of Serials Indexed for Online Users, and more. Now that the TB is published on the web, NLM can post articles as soon as the information is available.

The reorganization of NLM's bibliographic databases is especially pertinent to online searchers. PubMed contains Medline, Medline in-process, and publisher-supplied journal citations. Books, book chapters, audiovisuals, technical reports, unpublished documents, and other monographic literature are in (or will soon be in) Locatorplus. Meeting abstracts are moving to another web-based collection, along with the pre-1966 journal citations. The NLM Gateway will interface initially with these data sources. As the Gateway evolves, TOXNET, ClinicalTrials.gov and other systems will be integrated. Check the Technical Bulletin for details.
