Professional Development Award For MLA Continuing Education

NN/LM PNR is currently accepting Professional Development Award Applications for MLA Continuing Education. The purpose of this Professional Development Award is to enable individuals at NN/LM PNR Network member institutions to expand professional knowledge and experience, in order to provide improved health information access to health care professionals and consumers. This funding can cover registration costs of one Continuing Education opportunity at the Medical Library Association Annual Meeting, but cannot be applied to registration for the full conference.

Eligibility

Network members in the NN/LM PNR (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington) are eligible to apply. Network membership is free and open to institutions interested in providing health information. To apply for membership, submit an online membership application.

Funding

Awards will be available on an ongoing basis through May 16, 2012, or until funds are expended. For approved CE awards, NN/LM PNR will register the applicant and make payment directly to the Medical Library Association.

Award Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated against the following criteria:

Applicant meets the qualifications outlined in the Eligibility section
Applicant demonstrates how the professional development activity is linked to a specific goal of the library/institution
Likelihood that the selected professional development activity will achieve the desired outcome

Reporting Requirements

Awardees will be asked to write a brief article summarizing their experience at the conference for which funding is received for publication in the Dragonfly, NN/LM PNR's blog, and/or to participate in a post-conference RML Rendezvous online session with other awardees to share their experiences.

Budget Guidelines

Funds can be used for registration fees only. Funds will be distributed upon receipt and approval of applications prior to the course, not on a reimbursement basis.

Publication and Publicity

The awardees of the funding shall acknowledge the support of the National Library of Medicine whenever publicizing the work under this contract in any media by including an acknowledgment as follows:

"This project has been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine, under Contract No. HHS-N-276-2011-00008-C with the University of Washington."

NIH Policy on Enhancing Public Access to Archived Publications Resulting from NIH-Funded Research

As of April 7, 2008, final peer-reviewed manuscripts arising from NIH funds must be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication.

The NIH Public Access Policy ensures that the public has access to the published results of NIH funded research. It requires scientists to submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to the digital archive PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication. To help advance science and improve human health, the Policy requires that these papers are accessible to the public on PubMed Central no later than 12 months after publication. The NIH Public Access site should be consulted for additional information.
