Medical Library Impact Awards

NNLM PNR is currently accepting proposals for Medical Library Impact Awards. The Application for 2008-2009 Medical Library Impact Award must be completed and submitted via email attachment by February 15, 2008. Applications will be reviewed as quickly as possible, and projects should begin in April 2008.

Medical Library Impact Program Goals :

  • To demonstrate the value and skill of information professionals by supporting their role in innovative projects;
  • To promote library involvement in institution-wide health information initiatives;
  • To stimulate collaboration within the organization to address local health information problems.

Priority will be given to proposals that:

  1. Respond to a previously identified health information need;
  2. Include or have active support of the institution's administrative personnel; and/or
  3. Feature library staff as leaders of interdepartmental information projects.

A few examples of potential Medical LIbrary Impact Award activities:

  • Conducting a study of financial and public relations impact of library services (e.g., library's contribution to IRS-mandated community benefit standard)
  • Training interdisciplinary teams to use wikis, blogs, or other web 2.0 tools;
  • Developing and evaluating a marketing campaign (to establish best practice);
  • Leading a task force to strengthen hospital relationship with long-term care facilities (possibly using new NIHSeniorHealth toolkit)

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be hospitals or health care agencies that are members of NNLM PNR. The member's librarian must be the project leader and must provide a letter of support from an administrative officer of the member institution.

Period of Performance:

Activities should be completed within 9 to 12 months of notice of award.

Reporting Requirement:

The project leader will submit to the NNLM PNR two short reports: a mid-project and a final report. These should include a summary of progress toward completing goals, modifications made to original project plan, information on any training activities or exhibits conducted, lessons learned, plans for sustaining project activities, and indications of increased recognition of the library's impact within the institution. An outline for the final report will be provided. This report is due within 30 days of the conclusion of the award period. If training activities or exhibits are conducted as part of the project, please submit an Outreach Activity Data Collection Form or Exhibit Report as appropriate. These forms are linked from the Project Reporting Toolkit at http://nnlm.gov/pnr/funding/toolkit.html. In addition, an article describing the project will be submitted to the NN/LM PNR newsletter/blog, Dragonfly.

Funding:

Maximum fixed price award is $5,000, to be paid incrementally at the time of the award and upon receipt of progress and final reports.

In making awards decisions, the NNLM PNR will strive for diverse geographic distribution throughout the five states of the Northwest.
