Assessment and Planning Awards
The purpose of assessment and planning awards is to support activities in the Pacific Northwest Region to identify and learn about a potential health information outreach audience including demographics, information needs, and community resources or assets. The award also supports activities to identify and network with community partners that might be interested in collaborating on a future health information outreach project.
Organizational members of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region (NN/LM PNR), are eligible to apply. NN/LM PNR membership is free and open to institutions interested in providing health information. To apply for membership, submit a membership application.
Up to $2000 is available for costs associated with the health information outreach assessment and planning process.
Period of PerformanceFunded projects must be completed by April 30, 2014.
Instructions for ApplicationsApplicants should inform NN/LM PNR of their intent to apply no later than December 28, 2012 by emailing email@example.com. The completed Assessment and Planning Award Application should be sent as email attachments to firstname.lastname@example.org. Word document format is preferred. Please use "Assessment and Planning Award" in the subject line of the email. The PNR staff will acknowledge your application when received and notification of awards will be given within four weeks of the application deadline, which is February 1, 2013.
Evaluation CriteriaCriteria for selection include: clear identification of a health information service or resource to be promoted to a well-defined audience, an appropriate plan to meet project goals, feasiblity of project, and appropriate budget.
Proposals must meet the following guidelines
- If NN/LM funding is used to develop web-based resources, the resources must comply with Section 508 requirements for accessibility for people with disabilities. [details].
- The awardee must acknowledge support of NLM whenever publicizing the work accomplished as a result of this award [details].
- If a journal article is published as a result of this project, the final peer-reviewed manuscript must be submitted to the PubMed Central digital archive in accordance with the NIH Public Access Policy [details].
Total cost must not exceed $2,000.
A proposed budget can include estimated costs for personnel, communication, equipment, supplies, travel or reproduction costs.
Food, furniture and library collection costs are not allowed.
In awarding these funds, the UW Regional Medical Library requests standard indirect costs not be taken, to allow the institution receiving the award to participate fully in the mission of the project.
All awards issued under the NLM Contract with University of Washington are subject to the Government's availability of funds in compliance of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.232-18, Availability of Funds. No legal liability on the part of the Government for any payment may arise until funds are made available to the Contracting Officer for this contract and until the Contractor receives notice of such availability, to be confirmed in writing by the Contracting Officer.
Development of Training Materials
Successful applicants are expected to use or adapt existing training materials before developing new materials. Consult the Medical Library Association (MLA) Educational Clearinghouse prior to developing materials. Training materials developed as part of the award should be submitted to the MLA Educational Clearinghouse.
At the conclusion of the proposed assessment and
planning period, submit to NN/LM PNR a summary of
assessment process and results, and a description of next
steps/implantation if planned. This report is due within
one month of completion of the project. The report form

Awardee shall provide email copies of all materials produced, press releases, advertisements, photographs and articles for newsletters related to the project. In accepting the award, the awardee gives permission for use of such materials by the NLM and NN/LM.
