Forum Overview
The Three Ps of Hospital
Library Success is a forum focused on strategies
for hospital library survival: being proactive, political
and practical. It is sponsored by the National Network of
Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region (NN/LM
PNR) in conjunction with the annual meeting of the
Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Medical Library
Association (PNC/MLA).
This forum came into being when, at regional and state
meetings and a recent NLM site visit to the NN/LM PNR,
network hospital librarians expressed concern that many
of their libraries were struggling to survive.
It brings together hospital librarians with advocates and
representatives from important constituencies: health
professionals, hospital administrators, information
technology professionals and the National Library of
Medicine (NLM). The day includes panel discussions,
problem solving sessions, time for questions and answers
and sharing of ideas.
We hope that the forum will
- Inspire hospital librarians to put into practice some of the new ideas they gather.
- Motivate hospital librarians to use the practical tools they learn about to help them show their value.
- Create a support network for hospital librarians among their colleagues and their advocates so they do not feel isolated.
- Present ideas about advocacy for hospital libraries that will be put into practice by PNC/MLA, the RML, WMLA, OHSLA, MLA and other regional and national groups working together with hospital librarians.
