Overview

On October 22, 2008, a site visit by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) was conducted at the University of Washington (UW). The purpose of the site visit was to have a midpoint review of the UW's Regional Medical Library (RML) contract with NLM for programs and services of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region. During 2008, the NLM will visit all eight RMLs in the NN/LM to learn first-hand about regional accomplishments, regional issues and challenges, and regional priorities.

In advance of the site visit, network members were asked to provide feedback about the strengths of the NN/LM PNR program and future directions it should take. The responses from this questionnaire were provided unedited (but without names attached) to the visiting site team, along with RML staff. The attached summary provides representative comments received for each of the open-ended questions asked.

On the day of the site visit, RML staff presented a summary of significant accomplishments in the region related to goals of the NN/LM. An afternoon session was also held with invited network members to hear their perspectives and input. Their testimonials represented a broad range of stakeholders, including: resource libraries, hospital libraries, public and academic libraries, community-based organizations, and health professionals.

The site team also met with UW administrators from the UW Libraries (Lizabeth Wilson), the School of Medicine (Peter House), and the School of Public Health and Community Medicine (Mark Oberle).
