Class Description

Who should take PubMed for Trainers?

The class is intended specifically for those who train, or will train, others to use PubMed. This class could be for you if you teach PubMed to large groups, small groups, or one-on-one training. We look forward to lively discussions related to PubMed searching and instruction.

  • Fill any gaps in general knowledge you might have about MEDLINE and PubMed.
  • Recognize what the National Library of Medicine considers good background information.
  • Improve your PubMed search technique.
  • Increase your ability to develop customized PubMed training.

What are the PubMed for Trainers class objectives?

  5. Experience peer collaboration and learning

How much time do I need to devote to the PubMed for Trainers class?

The class is designed as a "train the trainer" class and is taught in three 2-hour online sessions and one all-day, in-person session. The class includes content related to searching PubMed as well as instructional design techniques to help participants create PubMed classes for end users.

Based on feedback from participants, we changed the PubMed for Trainers class format. The instructional design content is now optional. The dates and times that you signed up for remain the same; however, the class structure is as follows:

Session 1 Online: 90 minutes PubMed content; optional 30 minute instructional design component

Session 2 Online: 90 minutes PubMed content; optional 30 minute instructional design component

Session 3 Online: 90 minutes PubMed content; optional 30 minute instructional design component

Session 4 In-Person: PubMed content

When you complete the PubMed portion of the class, you will receive 13 MLA CE credit hours. You will complete this part of the class if you attend the three online and the one in-person sessions as well as demonstrate that you did all the homework assignments.

If you also complete the optional instructional design component, you will receive an additional 3 MLA CE credit hours. You will complete this part of the class if you attend the three online sessions as well as demonstrate that you did all the homework assignments.
