4. Install NCBI Cn3D Molecular Viewer
5. Watch two short introductory videos

Monday, February 17: Lecture 1, Bioinformatics Overview

1. Lecture 1 video (41 minutes)
2. Required “Interactive Zoom In On Your Genome” Exercise (~3 minutes)
3. Required video clips (~3 minutes total viewing time)
4. Required exercise: Molecular Biology Vocabulary Exercise 1 Assigned, due in two parts: First half due on or before February 22, second half due on or before February 27

Thursday, February 20: Lecture 2, Bioinformatics Today

1. Lecture 2 video (56 minutes)
2. Required readings: Current state of affairs of the human genome (5 articles)

Saturday, February 22: Required Molecular Biology Vocabulary Exercise 1, PART 1 due Midnight Eastern Standard Time.

Monday February 24: Lecture 3, Origins of Biological Databases

1. Lecture 3 video (39 minutes)
2. Required history of GenBank video (~42 minutes)
3. Required reading : GenBank (1 article)

Thursday, February 27, Lecture 4: Bioinformatics Practice

1. Lecture 4 video (53 minutes)
2. Required readings: The Bioinformatician (3 articles)
3. Required Exercise: NCBI Discovery Exercise 2 assigned, due on or before March 6, 2014
4. Molecular Biology Vocabulary Exercise 1, PART 2 due Midnight, Eastern Standard Time

Monday, March 3: Lecture 5, NCBI Search Interfaces

1. Lecture 5 video (96 minutes)
2. Cn3D/BLAST Exercises 3 and 4 Assigned, due on or before March 8, 2014
