I was invited to write a final article for the NER'eastah - and threatened with the posting of ugly pictures if no articles were forthcoming. At the risk of having your memory of me as a colleague be a picture of me in a funny wig, I write these words -
When I moved to New England eleven years ago, I never imagined the friendships and professional growth that I would experience here. I have been privileged to work in excellent organizations and to serve on the MAHSLIN and NAHSL Boards. I have participated in the development and growth of new services at UMass. Thanks to Elaine Martin for giving the opportunity for several of these new experiences and many professional opportunities.
The start-up work of a new RML office was both demanding and fun. Figuring out staffing and budgets and establishing the new office at UMass involved the work of many people. Thanks to everyone who laid the groundwork (Elaine, Deb Dulmaine Coonan, Mary Piorun in particular) and to everyone who said "yes" when they were called on to participate on committees, the RAC, subcontracts and awards and personal advice (you know who you are and there are too many of you to start naming names). This office is a group effort and provides excellent service thanks to your guidance and expressions of need.
As I move to a new position at Thomas Jefferson University, I will carry my experiences in New England with me and treasure many happy memories of times there. The years I was able to spend in New England have been exciting, challenging and personally rewarding. I've enjoyed working with all of you on professional groups and committees and boards. I've loved getting to know so many of you as friends as well as colleagues. I look forward to continuing our friendships although it will have to be in a new format.
Thanks to everyone in New England for your friendship and support!
Debbie Sibley
