AD-Perspective

People from all corners of our region have already told me, "You know, you have big shoes to fill." And although I knew this from the start, I realize it more and more each day. Debbie Sibley has left our region a legacy of hard work and huge achievements. Debbie inserted herself into many library-related activities and organizations in our states throughout her tenure here.

I am very excited about my new role within the Regional Medical Library. I look forward to seeing many of you throughout our travels. We are just past the midpoint of our 5-year contract and we've accomplished a great deal and there's plenty of work ahead.

Some recent developments and upcoming items:

Our new subcontractors have started their work in information outreach throughout the region. Places like the Dana Library at University of Vermont and St. Luke's Hospital Health Sciences Library join other projects like those at Boston College or the Cushing/Whitney Library at Yale University. See the complete list at our Funded Projects pages (http://nnlm.gov/ner/funding/fundprojects.html)

Our work with public libraries and state and regional library systems continues as we offer free training opportunities in consumer health information. As we hire a new Consumer Health Information Coordinator, Donna and myself carry on in the training sessions being requested by member libraries and other organizations.

As we start our new fiscal year we will be announcing new opportunities for funding projects large and small in information outreach and training, course development, technology and information delivery. Look for announcements on NAHSL-L and our website. Also we want to let everyone know that we will have a site visit from NLM on June 17th. NLM will want to hear from member libraries to gather comments about the NNLM programs as well as to hear about how NLM can further meet members' needs. In the coming weeks we will send out announcements and offer an opportunity for member libraries to post their comments electronically through our website. We hope to see many of you on the 17th!!
