  • Overview of New NER Web site
  • New Public Health Section on the NER Web site

Overview of tne NER Web Site

Have you seen the NN/LM NER Web site recently? If not, below are some highlights of the new features. Also take a look at the article below by Hathy Simpson highlighting the new Public Health Section of the Web site.

A special thanks to all who provided feedback on the revised Web site during the development, expecially the members of the RAC Technology Awareness Committee.

    News Section

The Home Page includes recent news from the National Library of Medicine and from the New England Region. Information in this section includes the NLM Technical Bulletin, recent news items that may be of interest to our member libraries and their patrons, and recent Clinical Alerts issued by the National Institutes of Health.

    QuickLinks

QuickLinks appears on the right side of the Home Page.

This takes users directly to some of our more popular Web pages, including Funding Opportunities, our newsletter, the NER'easter, and our Training and Conference Calendar. There are also links to some of NLM's resources—MedlinePlus, PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, and PHPartners.gov.

The header is available on each page of the Web site.

    State Information

A link to information about each state has been added to the header on each page. State information currently includes Library Associations, State Agencies, Resource Libraries, Consumer Health Libraries and Resources, and State Statistical Information. If a user selects the Maine link under "New England Region", they are brought to the Maine information.

There are plans to expand the resources available under these links…so stay tuned! And feel free to contact me at penny.glassman@umassmed.edu if you would like to suggest a resource that is available in your state.

    Technology Section

The new Technology Section includes information of PDA resources, with links to the excellent Web sites put together by the University of Connecticut Health System Lyman Maynard Stowe Library, the University of Alberta PDA Zone, and the University of Virginia Health System Library. Also included in the Technology Section is information on Scanners for Resource Sharing.

    Education Section

The Online Resource page has been renamed to Education to reflect the expanded scope of the information contained on the page. Check out the Class Descriptions page to learn about the wide range of classes that are offered to librarians, health professionals, allied health specialists, and the public health workforce. The Resources for Individuals New to Health Science Librarianship brings together information that is useful not only to those who are just beginning their health science librarianship career, but also for those of us who sometimes need a reminder on where to find specific information. This is a great page to bookmark as a favorite on your Web browser.

    Public Health Section

The Public Health Section is another new section. To learn more, check out Hathy Simpson’s article below in this issue of the newsletter.

New Public Health Section on NER Web Site

The NN/LM NER Web site now has a new Public Health Web page

The page includes links to public health resources such as the Partners in Information Access to the Public Health Workforce (http://phpartners.org) and to public health resources available at the Evidence-Based Practice for Public Health Project (http://library.umassmed.edu/ebpph) from the Lamar Soutter Library.

The Partners Web site provides integrated access to selected public health information resources available from collaborating U.S. government agencies, public health organizations, and health sciences libraries.

The Evidence-Based Practice for Public Health Project provides access to evidence-based resources, journals, and databases for public health practice.

Also available from the NER Public Health Web page are links to public health training materials and links to resources within the New England states including departments of public health and state statistical information. Plans are underway to add additional public health links relevant to the New England states. For more information please contact Hathy Simpson, Public Health Outreach Liaison, NN/LM NER, e.hatheway.simpson@umassmed.edu.
