| NLM Symposium on Community-Based Health Information Outreach |
On December 2-3, 2004, the Symposium for Community-Based Health Information Outreach was held at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. The Symposium featured experts on health information outreach including a keynote speech by Eugenie Prime and panel discussions featuring lessons learned from representatives of community-based organizations (CBOs).
Themes addressed included:
- The potential impact of outreach
- The cost effectiveness of health literacy
- Building upon the community's strengths
- Learning lessons from early outreach
- Different approaches to evaluation
Elaine Martin, Javier Crespo, Donna Berryman and Michelle Eberle attended the Symposium. Several New England Resource Library Directors also attended including Marianne Burke from the University of Vermont, David Ginn from Boston University, Kenny Marone from Yale, Elizabeth Schneider from Massachusetts General Hospital. Sabrina Kurtz-Rossi from World Education presented a poster on the NN/LM, NER funded Plain Language Health Information Project.
