Funding Information Session-Disaster Health Info Outreach 2014

As previously announced on April 22, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is offering a funding opportunity for small projects to improve access to disaster medicine and public health information for health care professionals, first responders and others that play a role in health-related disaster preparedness, response and recovery.  NLM is soliciting proposals from partnerships in the U.S. that include at least one library and at least one organization that has disaster-related responsibilities, such as a health department, emergency management department, and responder organizations. Contract awards will be offered for a minimum of $15,000 to a maximum of $30,000 each for a one-year project.

An open information session will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 1:30 pm ET during the monthly Disaster Information Specialist webinar. Log in via Adobe Connect and/or dial in (see login information below) to learn about this opportunity and ask questions about the solicitation and its requirements. A member of the NLM Contracts and Acquisition team will be on the call to address questions. All questions and responses will be posted following the meeting on FedBizOpps.

The deadline for proposals is Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 5 pm ET.

Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness

The journal “Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness” is publishing a special issue in 2014 on the role of communication in public health preparedness measures and response to pandemics, with particular reference to infectious disease outbreaks. Topics include: crisis preparedness framework, tools for outbreak communication, information management and access, mass media/social media, and more.

DESCRIPTION:  This webinar, hosted by the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, New England Region’s Healthcare Workforce Community of Interest, will be an overview of some lesser-known but equally valuable information resources maintained by the National Library of Medicine.  Hathy Simpson, Public Health Information Specialist, will discuss public health resources including the public health portal, PHPartners.org, and Healthy People 2020 Structured Evidence Queries (pre-formulated searches of PubMed). Meredith Solomon, Education and Outreach Coordinator, will present on the tools and resource available from the Disaster Information Management Research Center.  These include web-based programs and portable apps designed for first responders and other medical personnel responding to biohazard emergencies.
