Librarians Adding Value to EHRs: Infobuttons and Meaningful Use

Free Health IT Webinar –

Title: Librarians Adding Value to EHRs: Infobuttons and Meaningful Use

Time:  April 30, 2014, 1:00-2:00 pm, EDT.

Course length:  1.0 hour

Registration Required:  http://tinyurl.com/p3nxmq9

This webinar is the second in a series on ways librarians can add value to electronic health records.  The goals of this webinar are threefold: to give librarians a clear understanding of what infobuttons are and how they work; to deepen their understanding of the needs of clinicians using EHRs; and to highlight requirements for Meaningful Use that may provide opportunities for medical librarians.

Guilherme Del Fiol, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Biomedical Informatics, University of Utah, School of Medicine will present results of a systematic review on clinical questions raised by clinicians and tools that help answer these questions by integrating EHR systems with online knowledge resources.

He will also discuss how these tools are being disseminated via the “HL7 Context-Aware Knowledge Retrieval Standard” (a.k.a, Infobutton Standard) and the EHR Meaningful Use certification program.

John Halamka, MD, Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School; Chief Information Officer, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center will review the healthcare IT challenges ahead that medical librarians can help support. Meaningful Use Stage 2 regulations and proposed regulations for Meaningful Use Stage 3 include several requirements for decision support, patient education, and quality metrics, all of which benefit from knowledge services curated by medical librarians.

This webinar was organized by a team of three librarians.  Evelyn B. Morgen, director of the Lyman Maynard Stowe Library, University of Connecticut Health Center,  Jennifer D. Miglus, (librarian at LM Stowe library,) and Douglas L. Varner, (Senior Associate Director and Chief Biomedical Informationist at the Dahlgren Memorial Library, Georgetown University Medical Center) invited and coordinated with the speakers.  This webinar could not have been produced without the invaluable technical support of Meredith Solomon and the staff of NNLM/NER.
