NER Hires new Education and Outreach Coordinator
Hello! Today is my third day as the new NN/LM, NER Education & Outreach Coordinator and I cannot tell you how excited I am to be here. I hope to meet some of you at MLA next week. Please see the announcement below sent out by Mary Piorun. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and I look forward to working with you.
We are pleased to announce that Meredith Solomon will be joining the NER staff starting April 22, 2013 as our Education and Outreach Coordinator. Meredith has been working in libraries since 1991. She graduated with her MLS in August of 2006 from Emporia State University via their Distance Learning Program while living in Oregon. Before she started her master’s degree and during her schooling she worked as a paraprofessional Library Technical Assistant at Tuality Healthcare in Hillsboro, Oregon. After graduation Meredith was accepted into the 2006-2007 National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship Program where she worked on a project indexing Old Medline Records and created a prototype which morphed into the Understanding Medical Words: A Tutorial from the National Library of Medicine. Following the fellowship program, Meredith took a position as Outreach Librarian for the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Health Sciences and Human Services Library, in which she focused on promoting Maryland Health GoLocal before it became defunct. In this position she also traveled throughout the state of Maryland training nurses, dieticians, public health works, mental health works and members of the general public about NLM and its products. After working in Maryland, Meredith returned to the hospital environment in 2011 accepting a position at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia working with residents, physicians, nursing researchers, medical students and other hospital staff. Meredith has extensive knowledge of the inner workings of the National Library of Medicine, their products and services. Meredith brings to the region a proven record of outreach, education, and knowledge of the issues facing hospital libraries. Meredith will be overseeing the regions disaster preparedness initiatives and coordinating Docline and membership services, as well as teaching PubMed, Medlineplus and other NLM databases.
Please join us in welcoming Meredith to our region.
We are excited to have her.
