MedlinePlus Encyclopedia – more links!

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Forwarded from Stephanie Narva Dennis, NLM

MedlinePlus users have more ways to discover rich content from the A.D.A.M. medical encyclopedia. Nearly 700 of the 800 English MedlinePlus topic pages now include links to related encyclopedia articles.

Look for the “Encyclopedia” box on the right-hand side of a topic page. If there are more than 10 related encyclopedia links, the box shows the first 10 by default and you can see the rest by clicking the plus (+) symbol to expand the box. Links to Spanish encyclopedia content will be increasing in the coming months on MedlinePlus en español. On the Spanish topic pages, the encyclopedia links will appear in the body of the page instead of in a separate encyclopedia box.

Additionally, users will now see links to related MedlinePlus topics in the side-bar of many English and Spanish encyclopedia articles.

NCBI: Homepage Has a New Look

Friday, November 20th, 2009

In addition to the Redesign for PubMed there is also a new look to the NCBI homepage. It is currently available as a preview site. Check it out: http://preview.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/guide/
This new page has organized the NCBI resources into categories. The new homepage also contains a How To section in the center of the page, similar to a FAQ, linking to detailed steps that answer the question. Wondering what resources relate to Genetics & Medicine? It is easy to find them from this new page. Feedback is appreciated and encouraged.
All NCBI pages, including PubMed, will have a new footer that will provide several links in categories such as Getting Started, Resources, Popular and Featured.

Remember you can be kept up to date with NCBI activities and resources by reading the NCBI News that comes out monthly or subscribing to one of the e-mail lists http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Sitemap/Summary/email_lists.html or RSS feeds http://preview.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/feed/
