Hands on excercises: A young Latino woman in the community has parents she is caring for who have chronic health concerns. On her last visit with her mother to the doctor's office, she overhears a patient in the waiting room state "There should be a law that everyone speaks English in this country!" and the receptionist agrees with her. The woman comes to your library for resources to educate the staff at the providers office. What would you start her off with? The same woman needs information in Spanish for her mother who was just diagnosed with diabetes. The Public health Department in your community has approached you for resources to provide diverse citizens information on the H1N1 flu. What are the diverse populations in your community? Where would you find information for them? A public library and Community Organization (boys and girls club, local church, homeless shelter, ie) have the opportunity to go after funding to set up a computer lab as long as they include resources and training on finding and evaluating health inforamtion. Where would they turn for help to 1. write up the grant 2. develop a listing of resources relevant to their population 3. provide training for their staff 4. develop classes for their population
