Technology: Video Services: Skype and Festoon Instructions

These instructions assume that you have a headset with microphone and a Webcam, and have already installed both on your computer.

Topics on this page:

Installing Skype

  • Download Skype from the Skype website.
  • Install Skype; during the installation process, you will be asked to create an account. Your username is the name you will give to other people to contact you.
  • Test Skype: Use the Echo123 service to test your microphone and headset. Follow the instructions on the Skype website to do this.

Installing Festoon

  • Download Festoon from the Festoon website.
  • Install Festoon: before installing Festoon, close Skype. Once Festoon is installed, re-open Skype. You will see a large orange "V" in your version of Skype as well as the orange Festoon icon in your system tray.
  • Running Festoon: when you launch Festoon for the first time, you will see a warning dialog from Skype asking you if you want to allow another program to use Skype. Select "Allow this program to use Skype" so that Festoon will work properly.
