EDUCATION EVENTS – SAVE THE DATES!

  • December 18  - 10:00 MT/ 11:00 CT – Breezing Along with the RML – Data Accuracy in Journal Abstracts: Implications for Informing Clinical Decisions

The abstract is the most frequently read section of a research article. Sometimes that’s all busy clinicians have time for. However, inaccuracies between abstracts and the corresponding full-text have been noted.  Efforts have been made to improve quality.  How successful have these efforts been?  The presenter,  Dr. Sarmiento compared data between 60 abstracts and full-text articles from six highly read medical journals. Data inaccuracies were identified, then classified as either clinically significant or not significant.  Breezing Along with the RML is featuring Dr. Sarmiento to describe the results of the study and to demonstrate NLM’s ‘Consensus Abstracts,’ a mobile application to search for and retrieve MEDLINE/PubMed abstracts. (http://pubmedhh.nlm.nih.gov/consensus.php).  You’ll want to add this event to your calendar.
