There are still open slots for the full-day MLA CE course “Diagnostic Error: A Multidisciplinary Exploration,” being sponsored by NN/LM PSR on Friday, March 1, at Long Beach Memorial / Miller Children’s Hospital, Center for Health Education, Houssels Forum, with instructors Mark Graber, Barb Jones, and Lorri Zipperer. This free, interactive workshop for medical decision makers and information professionals focuses on how multidisciplinary teams can contribute to the reduction of diagnostic error. The session will highlight the collaborative roles of clinicians and librarians/informationists to reduce factors contributing to diagnostic error.
The invitation to bring a clinical partner isn’t a requirement for the class, but rather a suggestion. Several clinicians have registered for the class, which should meet the goal of expanding the class perspective regarding diagnostic error. To see a detailed class description, instructor biographies, location information, and to access the registration link, please visithttp://nnlm.gov/ntcc/classes/class_details.html?class_id=559. If you encounter any difficulties using the registration system, please contact Kay Deeney, NN/LM PSR Educational Services Coordinator, kdeeney@library.ucla.edu. For specific questions related to course content, please contact Lorri Zipperer, lorri@zpm1.com. Please register by Friday, February 22. (bbj)

The February Disaster Information Specialist monthly conference call and web meeting will be held Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 11:30 MT, 12:30 CT , using Adobe Connect. The session is open to anyone wishing to attend.
Victor Cid, Senior Computer Scientist in NLM’s Disaster Information Management Research Center (DIMRC), will describe two projects that DIMRC is coordinating for the Bethesda Hospitals’ Emergency Preparedness Partnership (BHEPP) http://www.bethesdahospitalsemergencypartnership.org. BHEPP is a partnership of four major healthcare institutions in Bethesda, MD, who work collaboratively in response to man-made or natural disasters. The DIMRC projects support the work of the hospitals’ senior personnel who are in charge of managing the hospitals in case of a disaster. The first project is a resilient communications system that allows the hospitals’ emergency managers to keep connected through email when all other traditional communications systems are unavailable. The other is a learning system for the Hospital Incident Command System that makes use of gaming technology, to enable the senior staff conducting collaborative exercises based on simulated disasters.
To join the meeting, visit: https://webmeeting.nih.gov/disinfo. Enter your name in the guest box and click “Enter Room.” A pop-up box should appear, asking for your phone number. Enter your phone number and the system will call you.

You’ll hear the latest on what’s happening with big data from keynote speaker, Victoria Stodden, who has focused on developing standards of openness for data and code sharing, and solving legal and policy barriers. Hear from panelists about tools — Eagle-i , VIVO, Data Management Planning Tool, RedCap — that will help librarians and researchers deal with data generated by research.
This is a hybrid session with presenters located in Seattle and Salt Lake City and participants located in Seattle, Portland, and Salt Lake City.
