Applications Now Accepted for Leonard Doak Memorial Scholarship in Health Literacy

The Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA), in collaboration with Cecilia Doak, has posted an application form for the Leonard Doak Memorial Scholarship in Health Literacy. Click here to apply.

The Leonard Doak Memorial Scholarship in Health Literacy was established by Len’s wife and longtime collaborator in health literacy studies, Cecilia Doak. The Scholarship was funded to honor Leonard Doak’s memory and contributions to the field of health literacy. Len passed away on July 15, 2012.

Criteria for award judging:

  • Work with populations challenged by health disparities
  • Work in an underserved, underrepresented area
  • Serve in a capacity of writing and reviewing health literature
  • Be a provider of health education
  • Be interested in creating new health literacy materials
  • Be committed to elevating and improving the field of health literacy

One winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the 2013 Health Literacy Institute in Freeport, Maine, June 2-5, 2013. The winner will be presented at the 12th Annual IHA Health Literacy Conference, May 8-10, 2013, in Irvine, California. The winner will work for the year under the mentorship of a health literacy professional. Cecilia Doak has graciously agreed to serve in this capacity for the first year.

Our Call for Applications is open until Friday, February 1, 2013.

Donations to the fund are also being accepted. Please make checks payable to IHA/Doak Memorial Fund for Health Literacy and mail to same, 501 S. Idaho St., Suite 300, La Habra, CA 90631. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.
