The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is funding seven Disaster Health Information Outreach and Collaboration Projects in a new program which began September 2011. The program supports efforts of libraries and other organizations to work together to improve use of disaster medicine and public health information by agencies working in any phase of all-hazards management. A commonly used three-drug regimen for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis has been found harmful.
NIH has stopped one treatment arm of the trial; other two treatments are continuing.

A new traveling exhibition is available from the National Library of Medicine, regarding a remarkable family of doctors in 19th century Virgina. The letters document the working lives of the Henkel physicians as they share medical cases, professional rivalries and the experience of the Civil War. (mm)

With EBSCO’s recent purchase of NetLibrary, the NN/LM MidContinental Region e-book collection has taken on a new look! More than 100 e-books are still there – ready for you to read online, but there is no current way to “browse” the collection in EBSCO Host.

The Office of Diversion Control has a new exhibit at the DEA Museum – Good Medicine, Bad Behavior: Drug Diversion in America. If you can’t visit in person, their website has excellent information on the history of prescription drugs, the science of drugs, pain management, and more.

The NN/LM MidContinental Region is now offering two funding opportunities. The awards will be made until the funds are exhausted, or until the end of the contract year (April 30, 2012, ) whichever comes first.
Professional Development Award is to support health sciences librarians who wish to attend a conference, or take a training or workshop of their choice. (Each award will be for up to $1,500)
Training Health Professionals Stipend is to support health science, public, or special librarians who wish to exhibit and present at a medical or health-related meeting or conference in the MidContinental Region. Three awards will be made with each for up to $1,000.
