Clinical Alert on Angioplasty

The following Clinical Alert on angioplasty with stenting was issued on April 12, 2011.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) issues a new Clinical Alert on angioplasty combined with stenting plus aggressive medical therapy vs. aggressive medical therapy alone for intracranial arterial stenosis. NINDS stopped trial enrollment due to a higher risk of stroke and death in the stented group. Breezing session with Siobhan Champ-Blackwell, Community Outreach Liaison and Betsy Kelly, Assessment and Evaluation Liaison.

1)  Siobhan Champ-Blackwell’s topic is: Grant Writing: Tips And Tricks From a Successfully Funded Health Professional.  The session will feature Joy Doll, Assistant Professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, Creighton University Medical Center, and author of “Program development and grant writing in occupational therapy : making the connection”.   Dr. Doll has been successfully funded by several federal agencies and other foundation and public funding sources. Come listen as she shares concrete ideas on what works to get funded.

2) Get a sneak preview of an upcoming Medical Library Association conference presentation.   Betsy Kelly and Claire Hamasu will share their MLA 2011 presentation “Pervasive Assessment”. This paper will be presented at MLA during the session on Rethinking Assessment. Come to the dress rehearsal and let us know what you think.

The eScience Portal for New England Librarians is really for everyone interested in eScience, whether you live in New England or not.  It provides a great overview of just what eScience is, and discusses the impact of eScience on librarianship,. It brings together “resources on education, outreach and collaboration, current practices and e-science news – the portal provides librarians with the tools, knowledge and skills to effectively participate in networked science.” [scb]

CLASS: Mobile Devices and Apps: An Overview

Mobile device adoption is growing at a rapid rate, and many of our library patrons and colleagues are embracing the technology.

Join Sharon Dennis and Rebecca Brown for a 1 hour class where we will present an overview of mobile devices and apps, focusing on the Google Android and Apple mobile operating systems. We will cover the various options for mobile devices and operating systems; describe the difference between a mobile web site and app; and review some popular apps and mobile web sites for searching, mobile health, communications, productivity and fun.
