Search Tools Overview
When you want to find web sites on the Internet, you can use search tools to help you. There are three types of search tools:
- Search Engines
- “Spiders” (computer tools) are used to build a collection or a "database" of web sites.

- Altavista http://www.altavista.com/
- Directories
- Humans assign web sites to broad categories
- Yahoo http://www.yahoo.com/
- Open Directory http://www.dmoz.org
- Metasearch Services
- Search many search engines at one time
- Dogpile http://www.dogpile.com/
