Class One: Finding Online Health Information: Evaluation Overview

Search

Evaluation Overview

Using a search engine to find health information on the Internet can be overwhelming. How do you know which web sites include information you can trust? Here is a quick set of questions you can ask to help you decide:

  • WHO created the website
  • WHY did they create it?
  • HOW is the content on the web site reviewed before it is added?
  • How OFTEN is information added or updated?
  • Is there a lot of information that seems TOO GOOD to be true? It probably is!
  • How SAFE do you feel using this website?

Let's start the module by looking at how to learn WHO created the website

These questions are guidelines only and information you find online is not a substitute for a consultation with a health care provider.
