Consumer Health Outreach

NN/LM MAR promotes the use and access to reliable health information by consumers in NY, NJ, PA and DE

Primary NN/LM MAR Contact: Lydia N. Collins / Consumer Health Coordinator / lydia@pitt.edu

For 2011-2016, our priority groups for consumer health outreach include:

  • Community Organizations
  • Faith-Based Organizations
  • Soldiers, Veterans and Military Families
  • Seniors
  • Caregivers
  • K-12

Whether you are a health professional or work in a setting such as a medical library, public library, community/faith-based organization, public health setting or K-12 school, consumer health is a part of your work. NN/LM MAR provides support for member outreach efforts surrounding consumer health.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has taken an increasingly prominent role in disseminating consumer health information by creating resources such as MedlinePlus, providing consumers with immediate access to authoritative information to help them research health-related questions and increase their understanding of health topics.

Services available to our members and consumers throughout the region include:

  • Exhibiting at conferences and health fairs on free health information
