Graduate Medical Education Reform Act of 2012
The AAMC issued a statement expressing support for the newly introduced “Graduate Medical Education Reform Act of 2012,” (S. 3201) sponsored by Sens. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), as an important positive component of a larger graduate medical education (GME) reform package that must include an increase in the number of Medicare-funded residency slots. “This is a thoughtful approach to transparency and accountability, which, when combined with an increase in the number of Medicare-supported residency positions, could be part of a comprehensive strategy to address the access crisis facing this country,” said Darrell G. Kirch, M.D., AAMC president and CEO, in a letter to the two Senators.
