New Head of Indexing Unit, National Library of Medicine
Please welcome Dr. Olga Printseva as the new Indexing Unit Head for the Index Section. Olga will assume her duties as Head of Indexing Unit A on March 11.
Olga brings to the position more than 17 years of MEDLINE indexing experience as well as expertise in cell biology and cardiology, fields in which she holds Ph.D. and Doctor of Science degrees. For fourteen years prior to becoming an indexer, Olga served as a senior research scientist at the Cardiology Research Center in Moscow, Russia and as head of the Center’s Vascular Cell Biology Group, where she managed a 10-person research team of scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians.
Within the Index Section, Olga serves as a member of the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) review panel and as a liaison to the MeSH Section, assisting in updating MeSH vocabulary to reflect current scientific research; monitors the quality of contractor and in-house gene indexing; has advised on best practices for the development and implementation of a new gene indexing interface; indexes foreign language journals, with a focus on Russian and French; trains contract indexers in MEDLINE indexing principles; and has presented on changes to MeSH at the Indexing Orientation, an annual event organized to update contract and in-house indexers on indexing policy.
