Registration Open for MAR-LI: Developing Leaders Among Us

Recently NN/LM MAR funded Cristina Pope, Director, SUNY Upstate Health Sciences Library, to lead the development of MAR Leadership Institutes.  Below is the announcement of the first Institute by Cristina and her team:

Please join us for this exciting opportunity with Anna Marie Valerio, Ph.D., psychologist and nationally recognized leadership coach, to enhance your leadership skills. Though individuals may register, the full benefit of this Institute will result from participation of leadership teams: a supervisor and direct report.

NN/LM Middle Atlantic Region’s Leadership Institute:  Developing Leaders Among Us

This is the first in a series of three in-person Leadership Institutes sponsored by NN/LM MAR. The Developing Leaders Among Us workshop is an interactive, 1.5 day experience to help individuals and teams (supervisor & direct report) develop themselves as leaders in a fast-paced world. It is designed to help participants acquire practical tools and techniques they can use to improve communication with others, build networks, and achieve performance goals for themselves and their teams. Participants will use both self-reflective and interactive exercises they can apply in their roles in everyday practice. Based on recent findings from leadership research, the workshop is designed so that participants build their competencies as leaders to achieve success for themselves and their organizations.

Overall Workshop Objectives

At the completion of these workshops, participants will be able to:

  • Create a minimum of two leadership development action plans to achieve 2010 performance objectives;
  • Practice giving effective feedback to others in a 3-step process designed to improve team performance;
  • Create an expanded “People Networks” ;
  • Identify at least two methods to enlist key personnel to assist in achieving work objectives; and
  • Identify at least two ways to improve self -awareness and self-management of leadership behaviors.

All participants will receive a copy of Developing Women Leaders, A Guide for Men and Women in Organizations. Wiley-Blackwell (2009). All participants will have access to relevant institute materials, networking and ongoing communications via the MAR-LI wiki.

Participants are eligible for 7 hours MLA CE credit. [pending]
