GMR Tech Talks

GMR Tech Talks is a bi-monthly webinar series that will cover a variety of timely and relevant technology topics for health sciences librarians. Classes may include overviews of current trends, how-tos for popular software, and tips and tricks for navigating the modern technology landscape. All webinars take place at 1 p.m. Central Time unless otherwise advertised.

  • All sessions carry 1 MLA CE credit External Link Indicator. Recordings can be viewed for credit up to four weeks after the session.
  • We recommend registering for sessions you intend to view as recordings to ensure you receive updates or additional materials provided by the instructor. Registration is available while the class is eligible for CE.

  • Tutorial Creation: Design, Policies, and Software (November 21, 2014)
    • This webinar will focus on the sometimes challenging and potentially fun job of creating tutorials. Amy will discuss some background information on instructional design and learning objectives. In addition, some discussion will take place regarding the creation of policies/guidelines for tutorial creation. Finally, she will discuss different options for tutorial creation software with her personal experiences and preferences.

    • Looking for ways to make your life simpler and help you stay organized? In this session, Tiffany will discuss productivity tools to help you do just that. With a focus on free and low-cost options, she will cover mobile apps, desktop software, and web services designed to help you stay on task, keep track of tasks and ideas, and work more efficiently.

    • Sick of using huge spreadsheets to manage data? In June’s Tech Talk, Tiffany will discuss the basics of relational database theory, including how databases work and what they're used for. She will guide the class through an introduction of Microsoft Access, using concrete examples to show what relational databases can do. Come learn how databases impact our lives and how you might be able to put them to use.
