Special Projects - Recipients

The GMR occasionally funds special projects that do not fall within the scope of our established awards programs. If you have a project that relates to the mission of NN/LM, but is not addressed by one of our awards or subcontracts, please contact us. The following were funded as Special Projects.

Year Four - May 2009 to April 2010

Subcontract: Outreach Impact Study Subcontract
Recipient: School of Library and Information Science University of Kentucky
Project Directors: Jeffrey T. Huber
Title: Learning By Doing: Engaging LIS Students In An Outreach Impact Study
Amount: $39,642
Start/End Date: December 2009 to January 2011

The overall goal of this project is to engage a group of graduate Library and Information Science (LIS) students, under faculty guidance, to plan and implement a study to determine the impact that GMR funding has on the ability of Network members to perform outreach on behalf of the NN/LM. The project will be conducted in two phases: Phase I: Planning Phase and Phase II: Implementation Phase. For each phase, select LIS students will enroll in a special topics course created specifically for the project. The Phase I course will be held spring semester 2010; the Phase II course will be held fall semester 2010. The main work product for Phase I will be an outreach impact study proposal that can be implemented during fall semester 2010 as well as an IRB application for the implementation phase. The main work product for Phase II will be implementation of the outreach impact study proposed during Phase I, including the final report to be submitted to the GMR office as well as a manuscript describing the project findings to be submitted to the Journal of the Medical Library Association.
