Description: The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) is Michigan's first new MD-granting (allopathic) medical school in 47 years, the only medical school in Oakland County, Michigan. It welcomed its inaugural class in 2011. The new school has implemented an innovative and integrated curriculum. It provides medical students with integrated learning experiences that engage them in service learning activities and allow them to apply their knowledge in the art and practice of medicine in the community early on in their training. The school is collaborating with the South Oakland Shelter(SOS) in developing and implementing a program for educating socially responsible community physicians. The goal of the program is to create awareness in medical students of the health care needs of the vulnerable and underserved (SOS clients) and provide opportunities for students to deliver basic health care and selected preventive health services for the clients and to develop and disseminate health education resources for them. The Medical Library of the OUWB School of Medicine does not have any community partners in the State of Michigan or the county where the medical school is located. It is crucial for the library to make efforts in building network and partnerships with community-based organizations and to conduct community needs assessment so that it can better serve as a reliable source of quality health information for community organizations and contribute to the strategic goal of OUWB library when they plan, expand, and provide health information services and information skill training programs for future generations of physicians and community-based physicians in the county.
