NLM is in the final preparation stages for the release of DOCLINE 4.6 which completes updates and enhancements to the Requests module with changes to Loansome Doc Transfer and the Resubmit features. NLM plans to release DOCLINE 4.6 on the morning of Tuesday, July 26, 2011 and they anticipate that DOCLINE will be unavailable for approximately one hour Tuesday morning from 7:00 am to 8:00 am while they make the changes.

To learn about the upcoming changes, see the Release Notes with screenshots: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/docline/docline_rel_info_v4_6.html
Note: DOCLINE online help and FAQs will be updated once DOCLINE 4.6 is released.

The Regional Medical Libraries and CISTI have been testing the new version for us over the past several weeks. We can answer any DOCLINE questions and provide assistance to libraries in our region.

The vendors (Clio, ILLiad, QuickDOC, and Relais) were given the opportunity to validate their software against DOCLINE 4.6.

By popular demand, NLM will again host a What’s New webinar to introduce the new features of DOCLINE 4.6. Additional information about the What’s New session will be posted to the GMRLIST, but here are the dates so you can block off one of these times if you would like to attend:
Session 1: Wednesday, July 27, 4:00 – 5:00 pm
Session 2: Monday, August 1, 2:00 – 3:00 pm

Beginning in 2009, the GMR staff held a series of small group conversations with Resource Library Directors in the region. One of the issues that came out of these meetings was the need for a coordinated print journal retention effort within the region. A Task Force was appointed in September 2010 to gather data about library space pressures, print journal cancellation concerns, and related collection issues. Many of you participated in a print retention questionnaire that was sent out in March 2011.

The Task Force has completed its work and we are making the Task Force Final Report available to all Network members. The main recommendation of the Task Force is that “the National Library of Medicine should take a leadership role in convening a national group representative of all its regions to explore the issues of shared print retention for both serials and monographs.”

Print retention will be a topic of discussion for the Regional Medical Libraries at the MLA meeting in Minneapolis and we anticipate that we will be communicating more about this topic in the months and years to come.

Read the report.

The Electronic Fund Transfer System (EFTS) is a transaction based electronic billing system for interlibrary-loan and document delivery. The system eliminates the need for the participating library to write checks or create invoices between EFTS members. The system becomes more efficient the more DOCLINE libraries that join. It is for this reason that we would like to assist our DOCLINE libraries with the opportunity to participate in the system.

If you are a Net Borrower you can make use of the Electronic Fund Transfer System Award currently being offered by the Greater Midwest Region office. If you are a Net Lender the EFTS office has made it easier to participate in the system.

EFTS is Calling for New Members!

We have heard from members and prospective members that making the initial deposit can be a deterrent to new membership. EFTS will now accept NET LENDER membership applications without an initial deposit to establish the account. The first LEND file upload will satisfy this component of the process. The newly revised MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT reads:

“Establishing an account
Payment must be made by either an institutional check made payable to the University of Connecticut Health Center-EFTS or by Credit Card (MC / VISA) by calling toll free 866-561-5045. *The initial amount to establish an account for this institution is $ _________.

(NET LENDERS will satisfy this component by uploading LEND transactions to maintain the account balance above a $0.00 amount.)

The institution takes responsibility in ensuring that future replenishment of funds will be made, as necessary, to maintain the account balance above a $0.00 amount.

*Initial amount to establish account applies to NET BORROWERS.”
