A new version of TOXMAP® (http://toxmap.nlm.nih.gov) was released this month. TOXMAP is a Geographic Information System (GIS) from the Division of Specialized Information Services (http://sis.nlm.nih.gov) of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) (http://www.nlm.nih.gov) that uses maps of the United States to help users visually explore data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Toxics Release Inventory and Superfund Program.

This imaginary port illustrates drinking water and air quality concerns along with wastewater treatment, shellfish safety, work hazards, sun and surf safety, aquaculture and many other topics. There are a number of changes to PubMed® for 2007. These include modification of Type of Article under the Limits tab, significant changes in how OLDMEDLINE (articles before 1966) articles are handled, and changes to MeSH® headings and descriptors. Wonderfully, there are also two new search options - “print dates of publication” [ppdat] and “electronic dates of publication” [epdat] - which means newer articles can now be searched by the dates printed on the journal.
