2013 Annual Meeting of the Midwest Chapter-Register Now

The Health Science Librarians of Illinois invite you to the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Midwest Chapter, Medical Library Association, October 4 through October 8, 2013 in East Peoria, IL. Registration is available online at http://hsli.org/midwestmla2013/registration/. The early bird deadline is September 1, so register now to receive the lower rate.

Our theme for this year is Navigating a River of Information, and we hope you all are able to bring aboard new ideas to safely steer through the rough waters of our changing library environments and the shifting currents of changing technology. Through networking, discussion, and sharing ideas we can all work together to keep information flowing through our libraries and to our users.

We are very excited to welcome Michelle Kraft, author of “The Krafty Librarian,” and Sarah Houghton, best known as The Librarian in Black, as our featured speakers. Their presentations will explore the confluence of libraries, technology, and change.

University of Illinois at Chicago Library of the Health Sciences is sponsoring a “Health Information Practice Summit” on October 7. The Summit is will gather Midwestern health sciences librarians of all varieties to discuss the changes taking place in our environments and exchange stories about what we are doing to address the challenges and opportunities engaging us. If you are interested in presenting at the Summit, submit your proposal for a 5-minute lightning round.

Stay up to date by attending updates from National Library of Medicine, the Greater Midwest Region NN/LM, and the Medical Library Association. Learn from your colleagues at the contributed papers presentations and poster sessions. We are offering five continuing education sessions, each approved for four hours of continuing education credit. From emerging technologies to easy-to read health materials, there are plenty of opportunities to learn.

Keep the conversations flowing with your colleagues at the Welcome Reception, the Night at the Museum event, and the dine-arounds. Maximize your conference networking by participating in the Mentor/Mentee program. First-time attendees and those new to the region can connect with an experienced Chapter member to share ideas. Mentors can meet new colleagues and gain a fresh perspective. To register as a Mentor or Mentee, please indicate your interest on the conference registration form or send an e-mail to heather.klepitsch@osfhealthcare.org.

We hope to see you at the conference!
