Promoting Iowa Go Local through a Virtual Poster

A couple of month ago, I submitted a poster proposal to the American Library Association’s (ALA) new Virtual Poster Session for the Midwinter meeting held in Denver, CO, from January 23-28, 2009. I wanted to showcase what we’ve done with Iowa Go Local and encourage the states that don’t have a Go Local program to start one up in their area. A virtual poster through ALA, seemed like a great way to do this, as their conferences always attract large numbers of people. The ALA created a wiki specifically for the virtual posters for the Midwinter meeting and it was up to me to upload the information.
The process was relatively simple. I was given a list of instructs on how to edit my wiki page to include any text and images, along with the choice of what format I wanted my poster to be. I choose PowerPoint and decided to embed a SlideShare “slideshow” (even though I only had one slide) into the wiki. This was done by creating an account in SlideShare, uploading my poster to my account and then embedding the slide to the wiki page.
All entries are accompanied by text. I focused on the promotional activities of Iowa Go Local. You can access the poster at http://presentations.ala.org/index.php?title=Iowa_Go_Local.
