Thank you all for your concern about the flooding in Iowa and how it has impacted libraries as well as individuals and businesses. There was no flood damage to libraries in the Des Moines area thanks in part to improved levy systems that held back the water as well as the Saylorville Dam.

There were a few neighborhoods that had some major damage because of some levies that did break, but
but nothing compared to the damage in 1993. The communities on the eastern end of the state were especially hit hard - Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and other smaller towns sustained extensive damage area as you have probably heard by now. The State Library of Iowa’s web site is being updated daily
    pertaining to flooding in libraries.
