World AIDS Day 2007

Established in 1988 by the World Health Organization, World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1st. Resources for AIDS awareness are available from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) website, http://www.hhs.gov/aidsawarenessdays/. Included are links to fact sheets, customizable posters, downloadable public service announcements (PSAs) and videos. AIDS.gov provides access to U.S. government HIV/AIDS information on prevention, testing, treatment, research, policies and resources.

EFTS, the Electronic Fund Transfer System used to debit and credit member accounts for the cost of interlibrary loans, was started in 1996 and currently has over 1200 participants. There are now EFTS libraries in each of the 50 states, Canada and Mexico. In developing this service over the past eleven years, EFTS staff has had the opportunity to listen to many librarians who have raised questions, issues and concerns regarding EFTS. The GMR Welcomes Kate Carpenter

The GMR welcomes Kathryn (Kate) Carpenter as Assistant University Librarian for the Health Sciences (AULHS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). As the AULHS, Kate also serves as the Director of the Regional Medical Library for the Greater Midwest Region. Prior to joining the UIC staff on November 1, 2007, she most recently served as Professor of Library Science and Library Director at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana from 1998 to October 2007.
