Two for One: Exhibiting in North Dakota

The University of North Dakota Library of the Health Sciences’ exhibit at the combined meeting of the North Dakota Medical Association and the North Dakota Medical Group Management Association provided a great opportunity for our librarians to interact with physicians and clinic managers whom we do not see on a routine basis. The conference was held in Bismarck, North Dakota, on September 14 and 15, 2006. Several of the physicians in attendance were impressed by the resources that are now available at the desktop. Those physicians who have been using our services stopped at the booth to let us know how much they appreciate having a broad range of library services available. Availability in the rural areas of the state was repeatedly mentioned as a great benefit. Several positive comments were made related to use of the PubMed LinkOut buttons.

The Household Products Database was of interest to just about all of the visitors at the booth; many of them had not yet been introduced to the range of information contained in the database. Attendees were also interested in the scope of National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources devoted to genetics. They were familiar with the more scientific Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man. However, they were not familiar with the Genetics Home Reference center, and how it interacted with a whole family of NLM databases.

Several attendees wanted to know which resources are now available through their PDAs.

We look forward to interacting with this group of health care professionals at future conferences.
