Skill Building

The GMR Office loves to promote opportunities for librarians to hone their skills. In this instance we have created a vehicle for you to do just that. The Professional Development Award allows a library professional to develop their skills in a manner that will later support their library and ultimately the users.

This year our network members have exhausted these funds. If you were wondering what creative uses these funds were used for browse the sidebar of the Professional Development Award. The Recipient link will give you an idea of how the funds were used. Look for more monies in this area May 1, 2007. For more information on how the GMR will support your library browse the Advocacy section of our website.

Professional instruction and continuing education allow librarians to exchange information and enhance pedagogy. The GMR Office has created an award to support the efforts of Full Network Members who want to provide this opportunity for their peers. Participating in instructional activities allows life long learners to blossom as professionals. The Professional Instruction Award will give details on monies available for this purpose.

This month The Journal of Hospital Librarianship contains two articles that will give you an idea of what it takes to plan a meeting. “The Art of Planning a Professional Association Meeting” and “If You Host It They Will Come: Lessons Learned from Organizing Library Conferences.
