PubMed Debuts New Limits Page

Regular PubMed® users may have noticed a new look to the Limits page in PubMed, where users can narrow searches by publication date, type of publication, and more. While it may be tempting to restrict searches to Links to full text or Links to free full text, this does not do what it seems. These limits do not provide a true indication of what your local library has available.

Instead, encourage patrons to sign in through your local library and look for the options icon that appears in the citation or abstract view of all results. This will link directly to free electronic articles, if available, or (in some libraries) link to a search of the online catalog to find materials in print.

Alternatively, patrons can use the Filter option in My NCBI to provide a tab with the items from your library. Have them sign into My NCBI, click on Filters from the navigation bar, then Browse, Libraries (in the LinkOut list), then click on your local library. They will have the option to add a result tab and to add an icon. The icon is not necessary when signing in through the library web interface. The tab will filter all the items from a search which are available through your library.
