Bed Bugs and Libraries

Thanks to Charniel McDaniels, Network Coordinator at GMR, for notifying us of this issue …

Looks like bed bugs have impacted library collections and services. In 2009, 31 rare books, infected with bed bugs, had to be destroyed after they were returned to the Denver Public Library. In November 2010, the Riverhead Free Library in New York State was closed for two days after bed bugs were detected in a chair by an insect-sniffing dog. Please let us know if your library has experienced any bed bug issues. We’d also like to share any policies or procedures that have been developed regarding bed bugs.
