Managing Serious Illness During the Holidays

Although the holidays can be times of happiness and joy with family and loved ones, they can also be stressful and difficult if a loved one or family member is dealing with a difficult illness such as cancer, diabetes, or Alzheimer’s disease. Usual holiday traditions may be disrupted by treatment needs or unpleasant side effects; the demands of the season may feel overwhelming when combined with the emotions stirred by dealing with a serious illness.

Several organizations offer helpful tips and suggestions:

American Cancer Society: “Cancer During the Holidays”  http://bit.ly/XK1RtF

Mayo Clinic on “Alzheimer’s: Tips to make holidays more enjoyable” http://mayocl.in/TR4ma0

CDC: “Managing Diabetes During the Holidays”  http://1.usa.gov/YTYNMP

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
