1999 Local Outreach AwardsWestern Washington Area Health Education Center (AHEC ) |
Summary Statement of the Proposed Project:
First Steps into the Twenty-first Century is a project of the Western Washington Area Health Education Center (WWAHEC) to promote awareness of and access to biomedical information for Maternity Support Services (MSS) workers. These workers serve inner city, low- income and minority clients through the First Steps program. By designing a hands-on training program in partnership with MSS workers and regional medical staff, WWAHEC will expand their current access to medical library and electronic health information, including PubMed, Internet Grateful Med and MEDLINEplus. With access to the latest information at their fingertips, MSS workers can provide the best possible care for the clients.
Goal:
To promote awareness of and access to biomedical information for
health professionals who are Maternity Support Services (MSS)
workers, primarily from King County. The project will also
include network coordinators from throughout the state who serve
rural populations as well. By including the second group a
secondary goal will be to encourage replication of the model
throughout the state of Washington.
