NLM Technical Bulletin Highlights |
Although no longer distributed on paper, the NLM Technical Bulletin is alive and well and continues to be the primary source of information about NLM retrieval systems. Online searchers should check the Technical Bulletin's website on a regular basis at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/tb.html. Articles are "published" whenever the need arises and are compiled into bimonthly "issues." The November-December 1998 issue is in progress, currently containing a Technical Note regarding IGM.
The most recently completed issue (September-October 1998) contains articles on Year End Processing, MEDLINE and Backfile Configuration for 1999, Year-2000 Solution for ELHILL and MEDLARS databases, preview of 1999 MeSH, AVLINE and CATLINE information being removed from other NLM databases, and details of MeSH availability on the Web. Technical Notes in the issue concern removal of Cancerlit and PDQ from NLM systems, order information for 1999 MeSH tools, MeSH and Subheading pre-explosions for 1999, and more.
The website also includes a cumulative index. The back issues are worth looking at, too. The May-June 1998 issue had a particularly informative article on DOCLINE developments. Check it out!
