Focus on Funding. Part IV: Online Access to Reviewed Health Education Materials

This is the fourth in a series of articles highlighting five projects in the Pacific Northwest Region emphasizing "Access to Electronic Health Information." The projects received funding from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) with a maximum award of $40,000. Online Access to Reviewed Health Education Materials

The lead agency for this project is the Health Education Materials Program of the Public Health-Seattle & King County office in Seattle, Washington. The purpose of the project is to collaborate with the Washington State Department of Health's Office of Health Promotion to provide electronic access to reviewed health education materials. The direct audiences for the project are health and human services providers, or additionally anyone wishing to get printed health promotion information to their clients or the general public. This project is intended to improve the delivery of health information to the public. The agencies that will most benefit from the Online Reviewed Health Education Materials are under-funded agencies that do not have resources to develop their own health education materials.

In order to meet their goal of providing electronic access to reviewed health education materials, the project participants will:

• support the Health Education Materials Program of Public Health - Seattle & King County in continuing the critical review of health education materials.
• create the Online Reviews of Health Education Materials using the database of health education materials reviewed by the Health Education Material Review Committee of Public Health - Seattle & King County.
• develop collaboration between the Washington State Department of Health and Public Health - Seattle & King County in the long-term hosting and promotion of the Online Reviews of Health Education Materials.
• promote understanding of the effective use of selected health education materials among health and human services providers.
• develop collaborative linkages promoting the unique functions of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Washington State Department of Health, and Public Health - Seattle & King County.
